The Pu Dooplaya Junior College (PDJC) or (Pyawtaw school) was previously known as Teacher Preparation Course (TPC) which was established in 2002 in Nu Poe refugee camp as the urgent need of the community in teaching field. With the supports receiving from World Education/Consortium (WE/C) and ZOA, the program run successfully by providing a number of qualified and competent teachers in educational setting. However, in 2008 due to financial challenges faced, the program was discontinued and IHE’s education system was introduced in the same year. Currently, the PDJC offers a 2-year lower division that emphasize on general education or liberal studies. In relation to upper division or specialization, which is another 2-year program, the school aims to offer Business Administration in the future. In 2010, the Global Border Studies (GBS), which is a 2-year distance learning program plus one year internship, was founded by World Education (WE) in collaboration with the Karen Refugee Committee Education Entity (KRCEE) and Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkiT) as a pilot project exploring the possibility of accredited online learning in a refugee camp setting. The program is attached to the school campus of PDJC.
